A little over a decade ago, I learned to establish goals for certain categories of my life. I would have one to three goals for each of the following; financial, spiritual, social, family, career, health, knowledge. Once again, this went on for years. This time I felt that my goals were getting more rounded. Covering more than one or two aspects of my life. Then came my introduction to ‘faith goals’.
Early in my Christian life I was introduced to ‘faith goals’. Faith goals are much similar to normal goals and were set (or re-set) every January. In my mind, the three major differences between faith goals and normal earthly goals where; one, this was a set of goals that you (and your family) set with God to accomplish. Faith goals are goals that you cannot and will not accomplish all by yourself. Two, these are goals that you acknowledge a hundred percent can only be delivered by and with God. That’s why you ask God for his blessing. Three, these goals are usually for the good of others in the end.
For instance a faith goal that states ‘A business breakthrough that will bring your company from the red and into positive income.’ This seems like a normal earthly goal. In reality, behind the Christian request, is a more meaningful goal. The business breakthrough will provide employment and even riches for the company employees. It can include sharing the income with specific charities that are deeply meaningful to the company owner. Faith goals transcends more than the self. It emanates to positively affect others.
This year, I am taking little of what was not answered last year and assessing if they are still what I feel God wants me to accomplish and achieve. I am evaluating my faith goals for the year and praying about them every single day.
How about you? Will you be doing your traditional new year’s resolution? Will you be doing something better, more meaningful and selfless? Will you be listing your faith goals instead?
